Law In Kansas City prides itself on providing you with as much information as possible to make your mediation session as productive.
Traditional Style: This is a 2 hour session with both Parties working through their remaining issues to find a complete settlement of their issues. We will focus on what works for the Parties (with a sprinkle of what what the Court will do if there is no agreement).
Transformative Style: For Parties who have issues being in the same room or have some type of trauma issues (domestic violence, cheating spouse, alcoholism/ drug use, High Conflict Co-Parenting, or other traumatic issues), we start with an individual session so I can understand the issues of the Parties and what is keeping them blocked from making progress. After the individual session, we will have a joint session.
Check-In Mediation: This is perfect for those who may need to make changes to their schedules or to discuss issues in Co-Parenting where they cannot agree. These sessions can be scheduled anywhere from 1- 2 hours.
Get to know you: This will be our chance to find out what we are focusing on in the session, if attorneys will be participating, and which type of session you are requesting. If you need special accommodations due to issues with domestic violence or the Parties have a high level of conflict, please let us know. We want both Parties to feel comfortable and provide the right environment to promote a positive experience.
Provide you with more free information: Law In Kansas City has a great publication on Mediation... how it works, what to expect, and how to get ready for your session. We will send it to both Parties to help make your session even more productive.
Cost: Most sessions are scheduled for 2 hours unless it is a Check-In Mediation. Each Party will pre-pay 1/2 of their session unless there is an agreement or Order for a different payment arrangement. If the Parties need individual sessions prior to the joint session (Transformative Style), each person will pay for their own individual session.
Schedule an appointment with the Mediator: We offer both in office and Zoom appointments. The Parties can be in the same room together or in separate rooms. Obviously, if everyone is in the same room, this is ideal... but not always possible due to the relationship between the Parties.
Initial Intake: Once you book your appointment, we will send you the initial Intake that you can complete online rather than spending extra time in our office filling it out. You will also need to sign the Agreement to Mediate.
Third-Parties: Unless there is an agreement of the Parties, another individual will not be part of the mediation session. You may bring someone to support you; however, they will need to stay in our lobby during the session.
